In winter 2020, I worked with cltv film on their documentary, The Busk: A Decade of Christmas on Grafton Street. Every year, thousands of people gather on Grafton Street for The Christmas Eve Busk which raises funds for The Simon Community. In the documentary, which aired on RTÉ 1, Glen Hansard, Lisa Hannigan, Liam Ó Maonlaí and other artists reflect on some of the most memorable moments from the busk over the years and bring us new and powerful performances. The documentary got rave reviews with Evoke.ie calling it the “the Christmas programme of 2020”.
I wrote a spoken word piece, delivered by Natalya O’Flaherty and filmed on a cold night in Dublin City Centre. Book-ending the documentary and weaving narrative throughout, the piece aimed to tell the story of the busk and highlight the plight of the homeless whom the annual busk raises funds for.
